Work Weekend
The brothers of the Georgia Tech Chapter worked to no end to improve the house for Spring Rush. Our house manager Rory Murray facilitated various projects such as brothers repainting the downstairs hallway and bathrooms as well as maintaining our lawn. In addition to these improvements, brothers Freddie Weiss, Noah Guy, Andy Wong and Christopher Haille virtually redid our existing bar by extending it as well as adding a new sink. Stop by the house to see all the hard work we put into the house!
Spring Rush 2007
Our Spring Rush went exceptionally well this year. Vice President of Recruitment Luke Dorna and his assistant Preston Ackerman worked hard at organizing an exciting schedule to draw rushees by the house.
The hard work of the brothers of the Georgia Tech chapter paid off!
We now have six associate members.
On Saturday January 20th, we welcomed these new members into the Georgia Tech chapter by pinning them followed by a good hour of fellowship at the Gordon Bierch Restaurant. The associate members have already begun their membership education program with brother Craig Whitehorne serving as their Associate Member Educator.
Alumni Speakers
We would like to recognize Alumnus Al Walters, roll book #80, for making a stop by the General Fraternity Meeting on January 24th. Mr. Walters spoke to the chapter about how Delta Upsilon has helped him in his life. When prompted what was his most memorable moment while he was an undergrad at DU, Mr. Walters spoke of a time when the Brown Chapter pledged the first ever African American in a predominately white fraternity.
When prompted by International to not to let the gentleman continue his pledgeship as it would stir up controversy, the Brown Chapter responded by electing him to President and sending him to the Leadership Institute!
Afterwards Mr. Walters graciously stayed on to talk to brothers about other memorable moments he had while he was an undergrad. We would like to thank Mr. Walters for sharing his knowledge and experience with us. The undergraduate chapter truly enjoyed his company.
We would like to thank all the alumni that have responded so graciously to our request for more alumni speakers especially, Aaron Paul, Ken Ahrens, Ben Hargis, Robert McKeeman, Ray Moser and Edward Gatzke.
Being a speaker at one of our chapter meetings is a really great way to see what has been going on at the Georgia Tech Chapter. The undergrads enjoy hearing what you as alumni have to say. You are more than welcome to talk about any thing that you would like to share. For more information please contact Keith Menezes.
Greek Week
As the spring semester open, brothers and associate members are already hard at work training for Greek Week. Alumnus Steve Dripps trains our tug team for victory every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Practices are being scheduled for Pyramid and Greek Sing. Associate Member Tim Van de Vall submitted an outstanding T-Shirt design for the Greek Week t-shirt contest. Rest assured the brothers of the Georgia Tech Chapter are serious about winning Greek Week this year.
Mixers
This semester, the brothers of the Georgia Tech chapter proposed mixers to all the sororities on campus. The sisters of Alpha Chi Omega and Alpha Gamma Delta both enthusiastically accepted our mixer proposals. In addition to this good news, the sister of Alpha Chi Omega and Zeta Tau Alpha of Brenau University invited us to have a mixer with them. Needless to say we were surprised at how well our mixer proposals were received! With your help, we will be able to show these ladies a great time! Please send any donations to us online here. Thanks in advance for your support!
Situation with International
Our situation with DU International has never been better. In the past two years we have scored above 90% on the Chapter Excellence Plan (CEP) as well won awards for excellence for Chapter Administration and House Management. We were also nominated for excellence awards in most major categories. We have been off all forms of probation for over a year and our transition from dry to wet housing went extremely well. We even created a Judicial Committee to help the chapter deal better with internal issues. Please email any questions you might have about our current status with International to Nick White.
The Return of a Tradition
Alumnus Al Walters informed the chapter about a rush tradition that used to take place at the Georgia Tech Chapter that was often useful for raising money for rush. We would like to resurrect this tradition by asking for donations of $60 or more (the value of roughly one “keg”). All donations would go directly toward the rush fund as well as the 50th anniversary celebration. All Alumni that donate will have their name engraved in a plaque that will be prominently displayed in the house.
