Chapter Goals

Alumni,
This year as a chapter we are trying to accomplish many things and we need your help.

The Georgia Tech chapter of Delta Upsilon is getting back to basics and focusing on Building Better Men through the Four Founding Principles:

  • The Advancement of Justice
  • The Development of Character
  • The Diffusion of Liberal Culture
  • The Promotion of Friendship
We are committed to building a chapter of excellence. Our Recruitment chairman Preston Ackerman has been aligning our recruitment efforts with standards and the Principles.

Our chapter is setting high goals such as standards for our members as well as a renewed commitment to scholarship.

This summer we would like to send 1/3 of our members to the Leadership Institute in Houston, TX. This equates to roughly 20 members of our chapter.

Members that have previously been to L.I. come back to the chapter with a better understanding of what Delta Upsilon aims to accomplish as a fraternity. Those same members are also highly motivated to make our chapter function more the purpose of Building Better Men.

We can only accomplish these goals with your support! The Georgia Tech chapter is dreaming big, we need alumni to help mentor our chapter members. We need you to give back, in order to continue being a successful chapter.

Not sure how you can help the Georgia Tech Chapter of Delta Upsilon? The next page outlines what the chapter is looking for from alumni.

We look forward to seeing your increased involvement in YOUR fraternity!

Fraternally,

Keith Menezes

What the Chapter Needs from Alumni

Mentoring & Time
The chapter needs alumni that are willing to serve as advisors to the chapter. The time commitment would be minimal but the impact would be HUGE. This role would involve phone meetings with the chapter president once a month and visits to the chapter house once a month. We would also like to send these mentors to the Alumni Volunteer Conference at the Leadership Institute. We recognize that alumni are extremely busy, but the chapter is always willing to work with alumni and any time given would be greatly appreciated.

Alumni Speakers Program
This program was started earlier this year and has been a huge hit with the brothers. The speaker would address the chapter at our General Fraternity Meetings (held every Wednesday at 7:00PM) and educate us on something you wish you knew as an undergraduate. Topics can vary from how to plan your finances to how to take care of your car or how find someone that is right for you. Presentations can last as little as five minutes and serve as a GREAT way to reconnect with the chapter. In the past we have had Bob McKeeman speak to the chapter on relationships, Al Walters talk about the history of our chapter, Ken Ahrens on why sticking it out at Georgia Tech is the right thing to do just to name a few topics.

Example topics could be: What should you do to be financially secure once you graduate? How does one invest in the stock market? What are the essential parts you should check on your car? How does one structure a resume? What are the terms to securing a loan? How does one acclimate to life after graduation? You don't have to be a prolific public speaker. Chapter members would just be excited to learn from you.

Career Advice & Networking
The chapter would like more alumni to advertise job openings to the chapter. DU Circle would be a great way to accomplish this. DU Circle allows members in Delta Upsilon to post and/or browse for jobs, create profiles, create groups, post messages, easily organize events and much, much more!  Go to www.du-circle.org to sign up for this exciting service! [Once you are there Click on ”Join Today” button, follow the 3 simple steps and you should be set up! Once you log in with your username and password Click on groups -> find groups -> Atlanta, GA. Click on the link for Georgia Tech Alumni and join the group.
Once you join you can create events, post photos and announcements.

Support Financially for Scholarships & Leadership Seminars
The chapter is looking to build and strengthen leadership; there are a number of ways we can accomplish this:

     - Send more brothers to the Leadership Institute every summer
International pays for 2 brothers to go to L.I, this past summer we sent 4. L.I. gets brothers motivated and gives us practical information on how to improve our chapter. We would really like to send more brothers to L.I.

     - Set up a scholarship fund for incoming freshmen that exhibit the Four Founding Principles
Renovate our Study -- We are in need of new computers, a new whiteboard , new carpeting, office supplies and a moveable whiteboard.

If any of these ideas sound great to you please contact Keith Menezes at kmen@gtdu.org. Your time and donations do not go unnoticed by the Chapter.
