A Message From Chapter President: Freddie Weiss

As the president of the newly elected EC, I am extremely excited about the future of our chapter. We have made huge strides over the last few years, and I believe now is the time to take the next big step forward. And there seems to be no time more fit for this than following our 50th anniversary. We want to ensure that Delta Upsilon will be building better men and striving to be the best fraternity at Georgia Tech for the next 50 years.

Currently, we are working on a program that will encourage brothers to meet specific benchmarks in areas that I believe will help us hold true to our oath and our founding principles. We are setting high standards in areas such as scholarship, philanthropy, and involvement. With this and more events focused on member education and brotherhood, this will definitely be an exciting time to be involved in Delta Upsilon.

Around the house there have been several big projects, including remodeling the study and upgrading the TV room. The house is almost completely full, and we are in the process of fixing the foundation, replacing the air conditioning units, and adding fire sprinklers in hopes of increasing the desire for brothers to live in the house there entire career at Georgia Tech. In addition, there are several big ideas for house improvements and we hope to be able to start at least one of these by the summer.

Although the chapter does not face any imminent troubles, we need the help of alumni now more than ever. The chapter needs several dedicated alumni advisors to guide its officers when making the crucial decisions on the future of Delta Upsilon. We also need a large number of alumni just dedicating their time throughout the year by coming to the events and showing support. Many senior brothers lose touch with the chapter and having you show them what Delta Upsilon has meant to you will certainly keep them involved and encourage them to be involved as alumni as well.

So as you can see we are extremely busy and eager to get things rolling. I am anxious to see how well we can do as a chapter with the dedication we have as undergrads and the added support of our alumni.

Fraternally,

Frederick Weiss

A Message from Chapter Vice President: Noah Guy
As the current VP of Membership Education and past VP of Public Relations I fully realize the importance of organized events and well guided officers. Deviating from the recent past the greater part of the events this semester will appropriately reflect our four founding principles: the diffusion of liberal culture, the promotion of friendship, the advancement of justice and the development of character. With the semester shortly underway events have already taken place exhibiting this renewed commitment. Officer Hawkins of the GTPD came and educated the chapter of the importance of responsible partying while he also addressed many of the brothers concerns with recent policy changes enacted by the police department. A date night marked the first event of the semester on the social calendar where in a tradition of trying new things brothers were accompanied by their dates to a tapas bar in midtown followed by an improv act at Relapse Theatre. Of most recent the brothers enjoyed a guy’s night where the majority participated in a poker tournament and hung out for the night.

In this short beginning of what is sure to be a busy semester you can surely identify the recommitment to our founding principles. More events of this nature are already in the works and will be implemented throughout the semester. Our dedication to excellence extends into the Greek community where we currently field intramural teams in all of the fraternity leagues and lead the rankings in soccer and racquetball. Along with our Co-Rec basketball and soccer teams which are undefeated. Finally preparation for Greek Week is well underway with tug practices three weeks in and the Greek Sing script near finished. The brotherhood is looking to best their three consecutive third place finishes.

Fraternally,

Noah Guy
